I WANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD

Bed bugs feed on blood exclusively. In fact, they have no mouth, only a proboscis (like a straw) for sucking blood.

HIDE AND SEEK

Bed bugs hide during the day in mattress seams, box springs, baseboards, curtains, behind switch plates, in picture frames, cracks in the wall and even behind wallpaper. My favourite picture is the female bed bug in the screw hole of a bed frame where she has reproduced and laid her eggs. Look really closely to the right side of the picture. You will see the eggs glowing a bluish colour and just behind is mama with her reddish brown exoskeleton.

CARBON DIOXIDE

is how bed bugs track you down.tracking. At night, they seek us out by following the scent of the carbon dioxide we exhale as a natural part of breathing. In fact, bed bugs emerge from hiding places just before dawn in search of you to feed on.

BED BUGS DIE IN GARBAGE BAGS

in the Sun is a myth. Some of the adults and nymphs will die, but others will burrow deeper into the center of the pile and survive.

HOME SWEET HOME

Bed bugs stay close to their food source, usually within 1 to 3 meters. They start moving farther away when the population explodes and the female needs to escape the male.

DON'T LOOK UP

They prefer to move horizontally so bed bugs will look for hiding places at same level as food source. That means, look for bed bugs in the bedroom night tables, baseboards, curtain and wall outlets.

THE BIG FAMILY

Female bed bugs reproduce daily and can lay up to five eggs per day when food is abundant and up to 200 eggs in their lifetime. That’s a lot of bed bugs.

STICK AROUND

Eggs are attached to surfaces in cracks and crevices with a glue produced by the females.

GETTING AROUND

Bed bugs are transported in furniture, luggage, boxes, suitcases, packed clothing and even books.

GO HUNGRY MY FRIEND

Bed bugs can exist for extended periods of time without food. Adults can survive up to one year without feeding. Although bed bugs tend to be more active at night, they can bite at any time.

STICK AROUND

ANY WALK OF LIFE

The fact of the matter is that you can be super clean or more on the messy side but bed bugs don’t care. They will find a hiding spot anywhere but it is easier for them to hide if you have more stuff .

NOT QUITE INVISIBLE

It is a myth that bed bugs are invisible. They are small but small but can be seen with the naked eye. To see the eggs and nymphs, a magnifying glass will help. Young bed bugs are about the size of a poppy seed and mature ones are about the size of an apple seed.

SAVE MY STUFF

It is a fact that bed bugs die at 45C. Thanks to Heat Remediation, you can kill bed bugs with organically. This means that you can save all your clothes and furniture.

CARRIERS OF DISEASE

Bed bugs do not cause or spread diseases, this is a myth. Just like mosquitoes, some people will react to bed bugs bites and excessive scratching can lead to secondary infections. Not everyone reacts to bed bugs.

ANATOMY

Bed bugs have no wings and cannot fly, jump or hop. They can only walk or hitch hike.

JUST IN THE BED?

Although they are called bed bugs, they are commonly found on sofas, in chairs and areas near where people sleep or lounge.

REACTIONS TO BED BUGS

vary from person to person. Some people do not have a reaction and may be unaware that bed bugs are in their home until they actually see them.

BED BUGS

can live for many months without feeding, in fact up to one year but, as soon as the female feeds, she can start reproducing again.

SCENT DOGS

can be helpful in tracking bed bugs, but are not always necessary in a home environment.

MATTRESS AND BOX SPRING COVERS

will help prevent future infestations in your bedding, but bed bugs can still find their way to you. More action is required. We recommend renting one of our sets of bed bug heaters.

REGISTERED PESTICIDES

have to have data to back up their claims, but other products usually have exaggerated claims. There are no miracle products on the market.

INSECT FOGGERS

are dangerous in that they can leave unwanted residue throughout the treated area. Most insect foggers contain a flammable propellant and some have been associated with fires.
