How and Why Do Bed Bugs Travel

Serious Bed Bug Infestations

I bet you are in shock. IMAGINE THE WORST AND THEN TRIPLE IT. I personally took these picture and several more. The smell still lingers in my memory. This is an infestation that went on for years and years. Both the landlord and tenant left it unchecked. You can see from the can of bug spray that the tenant did acknowledge that there was a problem but refused to allow the landlord to enter the premises. It was only after a critical medical situation occurred that the landlord was able to access the property. Prior attempts resulted in the tenants coming naked to the door when a pest control company came knocking.

The bed bug situation grew worse and worse as the tenants’ mental faculties were diminished from what we can surmise to be drugs and alcohol as evidenced by the pictures. In the first picture, the mounds of black matter are actually dead bed bugs. Frighteningly real. The mattress is almost black with bed bug feces. The bugs are crawling up the walls looking for escape and a new host. (Can I add on a personal note that my parents made the smallest child crawl under the cottage to check out the plumbing when things went wrong. I had to steal my nerves to do this. Obviously it has stood me in good stead as an adult but I would wish it on any child).

So, the whole point of this post is to explain is why bed bugs move from their very juicy host (you) to climb up walls and door frames looking for a greener pastures.

Of course, the female bed bug is extremely attractive and is constantly being pestered by the male bed bugs to get it on. For the fella in this situation, it’s all fun and games. For the gal, it’s called traumatic insemination. That means the fella literally stabs the gal anywhere he likes with his ……(you fill in the dots).  The female gets sick of this behaviour and decides that no guy is worth this trouble. She sets out on a path to calmer pastures – off the mattress and onto the bed frame – off the bed frame and onto the baseboards – off the baseboards and to the next room.  As a human (aka dinner) the minute you see black spots on your wall, you need to understand that you are on the verge of a serious infestation.

I want to tell you something about bed bugs.  First I want to tell you that I own chickens and chickens poop wherever they want. So do bed bugs. Just like chickens, Bed Bugs walk and poop and walk and poop. This indicates where they are travelling. All they need is a little hole in the wall to go to the next room. The good new is that if you are not seeing any black spots on your walls, they are not travelling.

These pictures were taken at a downtown long-stay hotel. There is no doubt that if you live anywhere adjoining this room, you are going to have bed bugs too.For an infestation of this magnitude, heat alone will not do the job, residual pesticides are required and all the adjoining rooms need treating.

I hope you never see as many bed bugs as I have seen and feel secure in the knowledge that you only have a few and we can help you!!!!

The best way to kill bed bugs and their eggs is heat!!!!!

I hope to help everyone sleep tight tonight and don’t let the bed bugs bite.
