BED BUGS IN SENIORS’ RESIDENCES

Finding out you have bed bugs is a nightmare at the best of times but finding out you have bed bugs in a retirement residence is a whole horror story.

The biggest factor when trying to treat bed bugs in a senior’s home is that the residents are constantly moving around the complex. They go in and out of the elevators several times a day to go to meals and activities. This provides plenty of opportunities for the bed bugs to travel from room to room and into the common areas.

Once bed bugs have been identified, the best course of action is a sniffer dog to identify areas of infestation. All affected rooms must be treated and this can result in the closure of common areas and the cancellation of programs.

One of the best way to treat for bed bugs is by renting a bed bug heater, which can treat each room individually. The room is brought up to a minimum temperature of 45C. The room needs to be prepared by removing items that will melt and moving furniture to allow air circulation. The tenants will need to move out for at least 12 hours.

The furniture in common areas can be treated using our Bed Bug Blaster Bag. Furniture is placed inside the bag with the heater and quickly achieves the temperature of 60C. Continue to heat the furniture for a minimum of 4 hours.

Adrienne is always happy to answer your questions and find the best solution for your bed bug situation.

Sleep tight tonight.
